Satisfaction of patient's spiritual needs in healthcare facilities
MIKEŠOVÁ, Miroslava
This bachelor thesis is called "Satisfaction of patient´s spiritual needs in healtcare facilities.". In the theoretical part of this work I deal with the needs, their distribution, definition and also the needs of a sick person. In the next part of theory, I focused directly on the spiritual needs and the role of the nurse and other workers in accomplishing those needs. Also mentioned the most common religions in the world and religion in our country in the Czech Republic. The main goal of the bachelor´s thesis was to find out what possibilities patients have in satisfying spiritual needs in healthcare facilities. To this goal, two research questions have been identified, RQ1: How are the spiritual needs of patient´s in a particular healthcare facility accomplished?? And RQ2: To what extent do patients use possibilities to satisfy spiritual needs? To accomplish this this goal, we used a qualitative survey conducted in the form of semi-structured interviews with directors from various healthcare facilities. Seven interviews were conducted with directors as a part of this research. The research survey showed how directors of various healthcare facilities have a view of spiritual needs and also how they can define them. Satisfying spiritual needs is very common in hospice facilities. They encounter spiritual needs less or almost never in other facilities. Patients who require spiritual care can primarily use medical staff. The medical staff is then able to mediate a priest, a pastor, or last but not least a hospital chaplain. The output of this bachelor´s thesis is a professional article that will help medical staff, patients or students of medical disciplines to become more acquainted with spiritual needs and their possibilities in satisfaction.
Spiritual needs of patients through the eyes of nurses at departments of aftercare and long-term care.
JEHLÍKOVÁ, Aneta
The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis is primarily concerned with topics of spiritual needs and spiritual care. The first chapter inquires into the holistic concept and the needs of people with illnesses. What is the need and what are the main characteristics of particular basic needs is described there. The second chapter engages in the spiritual care, but there are also other terms mentioned; the pastoral care or the hospital chaplain, for instance. The past of the spiritual care is not omitted either, as it reaches into the remote history. The last chapter is concerned with departments of aftercare and longterm care and these terms are explained there. Information about nurses' work at such departments is provided, as well. The research part of the thesis addresses the research aim that is defined in this way: To learn how nurses at departments of consecutive and long-term care perceive the idea of spiritual need, if they recognize particular spiritual needs and how they react to them. To learn the overall spiritual needs standard and organization at individual departments. Methodologically, because of the research aim, qualitative research design has been chosen and the data has been collected through semi-structured interviews, individually with respondents. The research uncovered that nurses have a basic awareness of spiritual care and spiritual needs but they still miss some knowledge. For example, many nurses believe that spiritual care serves only to believing patients. Another finding reveals that nurses are able to rightly react on spiritual needs of the patient and they agree on the process of spiritual needs' fulfilment. The thesis offers a complex insight into nurses' view of spiritual care. The output of the thesis is an information material for nurses and patients.

In conclusion, I mention the benefits of logotherapy in the pastoral care of the seriously ill and dying. My thesis shows the importance of poimenic and logotherapy in the service of seriously ill and dying. This bachelor thesis focuses on the importance of care services for the seniors living in the home environment. The main objective was to find out how the needs of seniors are satisfied in connection with the provision of care service and to highlight the difference in the perception of the needs of seniors. The thesis consists of a theoretical part and a research part. The theoretical part is divided into four chapters. The first chapter deals with old age and more specifically with the demographics of aging, the definition of old age, the age breakdown of old age and changes in old age.  The second chapter of the theoretical part deals with the needs of human beings and their classification. There are described biological, psychological, social and spiritual needs there. The third chapter deals with the relationship of the seniors and their families. It is divided into three sub-chapters: the seniors family and its functions, the assistance and the care for the seniors in the home environment and advantages and disadvantages associated with home care for the seniors. The fourth chapter deals with services for the seniors and care servises. The research part deals with the importance of care service for the seniors who live in a home environment. The main research question was: How are satisfied the needs of seniors in the connection with the provision of care service? Despite the will and the care of the nurses, this is not possible, either because of the workload of nurses or their education. Parsons do not manage to cover all the needs of seniors. There are cases where seniors emphasize the complete absence of spiritual service. There are often times when seniors would welcome more spiritual services. In conclusion, we can say that for the seniors the care service has the greatest importance in fulfilling their biological needs and also satisfies their psychological and social needs. The spiritual needs of seniors with reduced mobility are, according to the research, not fulfilled.
